MidWestern Deaf Camp Meeting

Both Esther Doss and Bunny Hovey were blessed to have been able to attend the MidWest Deaf Camp Meeting recently on June 8-11, 2006.  This camp meeting was held at the lovely Ozark Adventist Academy campus at Gentry, Arkansas.

Pastor Alfred Griffith was the keynote speaker.  His presentation on the Sanctuary was very interesting as he explained some of the many details in the sanctuary service.  We all learned so much and see more of God's plan to redeem us so we can be with Him for all of eternity.

Winford Taylor led out in morning worship and also the Sab
bath evening vespers.  Bunny Hovey taught the Sabbath school lesson.

A photo album showing the history of the camp meeting was made available for all to leaf through.  Truly this camp meeting had humble beginnings!  The first few were held on the lawn of Wanda Watson's home and people actually slept in tents!  We are thankful that times had changed and we now enjoy beds, air conditioning, and great food.

We enjoyed a special trip to the Wildlife Safari.  We first drove on a five mile road through pastures that had different kinds of animals.  Some animals walked right up to our automobiles.  One emu thought I had food in my hand and tried to peck through the window to get it!  Then we stopped to pet some animals.  Among those we could pet were kangaroos.  Some of the kangaroos had babies in their pouches.  All of us felt like little children as we pointed here and there at the different critters.  We talked about how this gave us an idea of what heaven will be like.  How wonderful it will be when we can live with the animals without fear, only love.

The attendance was small this year, but small numbers did not reduce the spiritual experience.  It was most worthwhile as the spiritual food and experience will stay with us all for some time.  We pray that we will again see each other in the heavenly kingdom.

Many thanks to Kathy McCain for her dedication and efforts to direct this camp meeting.  We look forward to another wonderful camp meeting.

Why don't you join us at one of the Deaf camp meetings or retreats?  We would love to see you there!
